Both can be had for about $100k (in V8 trim for the R8). Both have about the same amount of power.

The R8 gets the advantage in the interior department. That's to be expected for a modern $100 car. The 'rossa gets the advantage in the character department. I'm not sure if a rip-off version ever appeared in GTA, but it should have. Unmodded, it looks like it belongs there. Also, Dat high revving flat 12. Unless/until Scooby builds an MR supercar, you won't be able to get an F12 in a new supercar. This is it.

Downsides include wallet-breaking repair bills and they don't really make a whole lot of power anymore. You could get your ass handed to you by a lowly mustang, which is kind of not cool. So oppo, which one would you pick?

Of course there's a GTA version of the Testarossa. I bring you the Cheetah from Vice city:

Kinja'd!!!

I'd have the Testarossa. It's so much more special than an R8.

Funny, as I've been contemplating the same thing myself...

TR's aren't actually expensive to service. Allegedly, there's a big regular service that comes every year or two (reasonably priced given that it's a supercar), but the harder you drive it, the less chance there is of other stuff needing repair! As far as classic exotics go, this one's pretty reliable.

Though, the R8 is faster and you get to enjoy modern engineering and power steering...so I'm still undecided! Does one go for the appeal of a posterchild classic car or for modern style and capabilities?

Screw it, just get both.

For me without a doubt the Testarossa. I love this car, it was in the first computer game I ever played, this games started my love for cars, so it can't be anything else. Also I love the styling and the gated manual(I know the R8 has it also, but it is not the same). By today's standarts even some of the hottest hatchbacks could be able to keep with it, but for me today such car will be only to enjoy driving and not race other cars, except if it is not of the same vantage.

The Audi is just not enough special. Yes it is a cool car with a Lambo engine(the V10 version), but it is an Audi at the end of the day. The depriciation on it will always be worse then on the Prancing Horse.

Close battle, but while the Testarossa screams "I have chest hair!" only the R8 tells everyone at Hooters who the boss is.

I'd have the Testarossa - but then, I wouldn't, because if I ever took seriously the proposition of writing a check for a Testarossa I would talk myself into a 512TR instead.

I usually go for older cars, and I do love Ferraris, but I have to go with the R8. With a 6-speed manual, of course. Also, the Ferrari will just burn my house down after I buy it.

I'd much rather look at the Testarossa than the R8. However, I think many would grow tired of driving the Ferrari after a period of time. The R8 on the other hand would be less of a chore to deal with around town.

The redhead, but at the moment the Ferrari to buy has to be the ridiculously under-valued Mondial T cabrio:

Kinja'd!!!

They're about a quarter the price of 'Rossas, thanks to still being associated with the desperate men in Mondial 8s, but it's not going to be long before people notice that they're really beautiful cars with proper Ferrari engines, even if the handling's a little soft.

The Audi will get you there.

The TR will get you there sideways.

Still need to make up your mind...?

R8. Because gated shifter. And German V8 growl.

In my humble opinion I must disagree - dismal performance, dismal proportions (especially coupes) - I love this car in Scent of a Woman, but in person it is quite tragic. The 308/328 gtb/gts are far prettier even if they too lack the performance of modern cars, and trade only slightly more than the Mondial. If you want a reasonably priced Ferrari - 308/328 GTB/GTS or dare I say 348 (yes the Ferrari people hate them). If you dig the looks of the Dino 308, those are also cheaper to get into. But all cost tracks of land amounts of money to maintain. So find a nice and friendly Italian car mechanic before buying.

The 512TR is the Testarossa. I think a lot of people confuse the 348 as the Testarossa since it has similar cheese-grater style side vents.

I'm not sure I agree about the 308/328 being prettier. Also very good looking cars, maybe better looking, but not prettier - they're more handsome, less pretty.

Not sure what prices are like wherever you are, but from what I've seen 3x8s go for at least 50% more than equivalent-condition Mondial T convertibles here in the UK. If you offered me a choice, free, I'd obviously take the 328. In terms of which is likely to increase in price more, though, I'd say it's the Mondial.

Is the similarity I see here only in my eyes?

Kinja'd!!!

You definitely can't get a Daytona for under $30k in good condition :)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - but what I love about the Daytona is exactly what I dislike about the Mondial - the drama in the styling of the Daytona is in its sloping windscreen and great dash-to-axle proportion (the distance from the front axle to the front of the windscreen) - whereas the Mondial has a very short D/A (expected since mid-engine) and more upright windscreen. I think it is the second row of seats that ruin it for me personally.

In the US Mondials (not sure on the T specifically) trade between low $20K to mid $30k. 308 GTB/GTS trade between $25k-40 with 328s usually having 5k premium. 308 GT4 can be had mid 20k-mid 30k. 348 are between 30-55k.

The long-term value is going to probably come down to production numbers and I don't know them off the top of my head. I do know that the fiberglass bodied 308s are the most sought after and in America people want the euro-spec 308s.

I mean the later build 512TR with the upgrades over the earlier Testarossa. This thread seems to sum up the changes: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/boxers-t…

I'm sure the R8 is infinitely better to drive, but I'll take the Testarossa. I prefer the upgraded 512TR over the original.

well I find it more handsome in silver! Is that a US spec? I'm wondering about the difference in bumpers.
